The last Sunday in November had arrived and with it, yet again, the Great Lutterworth Santa Fun Run. The target was for 1,000 Santas to pound the streets of Lutterworth on a run of approximately five kilometers to beat last years recorded total of 781. Approaching the start of the 'race' 984 runners had registered, however, the final thirty minutes or so always sees a few late entries and this year was no exception. So. We're fairly confident that we exceeded the target.
The start of the race saw a sea of Santas running, walking or being carried round this year’s new and slightly shorter route through the streets of Lutterworth. The going was made easier, even though less seasonal, as there was no snow on the ground this year. However, the sun shone - albeit with a good bit of wind - and the Santas enjoyed another unforgettable fun morning as they went around the course noisily and happily cheered by the people of Lutterworth and the surrounding district.
Both Rotary Clubs were delighted with the turnout and, in particular, would like to thank the host of community organisations, local firms and individuals who supported the event. Special thanks must go to the Community Church for serving the welcome refreshments at the finish; to the Inner Wheel members and others for the delicious mince pies; and to Radio Lutterworth and the Lutterworth Town Band for keeping us entertained.
Such events also rely on the generous contribution of sponsors amongst whom a special ‘Thank You’ must be given to ASDA IDC & Hinckley & Rugby Building Society for their outstanding support.
The event was once again staged at Lutterworth College whose Estates team were their usual great help in making the event run so smoothly. There were over fifty marshals on the course plus the St John’s Ambulance volunteers & South Leicestershire Scouts who helped with the parking. Thanks to you all and to the media through whose promotion the event has become such a success.
If any of the Santas and, indeed, anyone else, would like to relive the event then there will be a display of photos from the day showing at the Town Hall on December 10th from 10 am -12 noon. It is also the Christmas Farmers Market morning on the Town Hall Square so come & make a morning of it.
